A trip on the world’s longest aerial tramway transports you above deep canyons and breathtaking terrain a distance of 2.7 miles.  See some of nature’s more dramatic beauty unfold before you.  At sunset the desert skies produce a spectacular array of color, and your vantage point from the observation deck atop 10,378 foot Sandia Peak in the Cibola National Forest affords an 11,000 square-mile panoramic view of the Rio Grande Valley and the Land of Enchantment.  Located on the eastern edge of Albuquerque in the Sandia Foothills at the end of Tramway Road.

Fire danger is Extreme  Most of the Sandias have been closed by the
Sandia Ranger District as of Monday, June 30th. 
See below for trail information.

Both the Tram and the Ski Area remain open with no smoking or fireworks allowed.



  • Hiking Trail conditions    6/30/2008

    Due to EXTREME fire conditions, the Sandia Ranger District has closed
    ALL trails
    on the Sandias except the Foothills Trail 365 on the west side.
    The La Luz trail is closed.  The trails leading north and south from the
    top of the tram are closed.

    Hiking within the Sandia Peak Ski Area boundary is permitted.
     No smoking or fires are allowed.

    Use appropriate clothing and footwear and don't hike alone.  Bring plenty
    of water and notify someone of your route and destination.  No smoking
    or fireworks.
    Use caution, bears have been frequenting the area.

  • BIKES ARE NOT PERMITTED ON THE TRAMWAY
